Added Security Measures at Malibu Chili Cook Off Include Members of the LASD Special Enforcement Bureau (a.k.a SWAT) Announced Today

As a follow up to our previous article, and the devastating active shooter events that have occurred in three states, including California, Texas and Ohio recently, local law enforcement has had to kick into high gear to secure local events, including for the upcoming Malibu Chili Cook-Off over the Labor Day Weekend Holiday.

Former Acting Captain, Lt. Chuck Becerra of the Lost Hills Sheriff’s Department, shared with The Local Malibu recently that “supervisors of this station will double the man power at all the events, including the upcoming Malibu Chili Cook-off ” also informed us of the latest LASD/LOST HILLS efforts intended to bolster security measures already in place for the Chili Cook-Off taking place in the Civic Center August 30th-September 2nd.

The addition of an armored personnel vehicle, the Lenco BearCat, and members of the Special Enforcement Bureau, will be present at the event as a precautionary measure.

The Lenco BearCat made two appearances during the Malibu Creek State Park Shootingscase last year and is typically used to operate in a counter-terrorist environment. Each vehicle is also a Los Angeles County Department of Health Services-certified Advanced Life Support vehicle and are equipped to handle any major trauma or medical cases in the austere environment of high-risk tactical law enforcement operations.

While there are no known threats at this time, “The event will be as secure as the Coliseum” Lt. Becerra assures us, adding his own daughters will also be attending the event. “I want the community to know that I feel it’s safe enough for my family to attend, the community can feel safe as well.”
